The costs associated with development of a web site are impossible to predict
without first having a detailed discussion with you about your requirements.
The
absolute minimum cost for the very simplest site with text largely supplied by
you in electronic form would be £300+VAT. The
maximum cost for a complex commercial web site involving
tailor-made designs, incorporating photographs, a database and on-line shopping, for example, could amount to
many thousands of pounds. However, the development costs for the majority
of sites which we set up, fall into the range £500 to £3,500 + VAT.
Here are some of the elements which affect the total costs, each of which
needs discussion with you, to determine relevance for your needs:-
- Do you need a web site domain name to be registered?
- Would a free-of-charge Internet Service Provider (ISP) be suitable for your
requirements? If not, then we need to agree on which ISP is to be used.
- Web space and an account with the chosen ISP has to be set
up.
- How much web space will you need?
- How many e-mail addresses will you want?
- Will you want a count of how many visits
have been made to your web site, or to parts of it?
- Will you want periodic analyses of visits made to your web site?
- How will you want viewers of your site to contact you? By use of
e-mail, or a feed-back form, or both?
- Will your site consist entirely of text, or will it also include diagrams,
photographs, music and perhaps video clips?
- Will you want to collect money by credit card from viewers of your site for
sale of goods or services to them?
- Will the web site need to
incorporate a database? The data structure and the access methods will
need to be defined.
- Do you want us to maintain the web site for you after we have developed it
for you?
If you do not, then costs
may be incurred for supplying you with a copy of the web
site development software, and for setting up this software and the web site
itself on your own computer. You may also wish us to provide you with
instruction on how to maintain your own web site, once it has been developed. Will you need equipment to allow you to replace or add any
photographs, drawings or maps on the web site? Finally, there is the question of whether
your computer is adequate for operating the web site development software, and
updating your own web site: if it is not, then your computer system would need
to be updated.
It is often more economic, unless your site is being
frequently updated,
to contract with us to update your site for you; the cost for a small
update could be as little as £25.
How will you want your web site publicised, for example, to various Internet
search engines and directories? Will you want entries in directories such as Electronic Yellow
Pages, with
automatic links from these directories to your own web site?
- Is it going to be important for you
to try to achieve good rankings for your site within the various major
search engines? Click

We hope you will now understand why we cannot provide fixed price quotes in
advance: every site is different, with its own characteristics and
costs. Please do call us to discuss your needs, and we will then arrange
to let you have a written quotation.
