Development process

The web site design and development services we offer are primarily aimed at medium and small sized businesses, (including new businesses) and at individuals.

Preliminary steps: If you do not already have a domain name allocated to you for your web site, we can arrange this for you, sometimes at no charge, and we can also arrange for hosting of your site at an appropriate Internet Service Provider (ISP). In some circumstances, it may be worthwhile buying more than one domain for your site, and we will advise you about this as well.

The first major step: Define the contents of your web site, arranging them logically into appropriate pages. If you have already decided on the contents, and have organised them into pages, then you have already completed the first major step towards web site creation. If you have not, then we will discuss and agree the content pages with you. The second major step: Development of your web site on a PC, prior to publishing it on the Internet, and carrying out preliminary testing. We can do this for you, designing the site with the pages previously agreed. This step can sometimes be combined with the previous step, but it is more systematic, especially for all but the very simplest web sites, to separate the two stages. We normally publish the site to private web space before making it generally available to the public, so that you can discuss with us the site content, as it evolves during the development process.

The third major step: Publication and testing. The site is transferred to your chosen Internet Service Provider (ISP). Then the transferred web site is accessed via the ISP's computer, and its functions are tested to ensure correct functioning. Typically, some changes are then decided on, and the site is amended on the PC as required, and the amended pages are transmitted to the ISP; the resulting web site is once more tested.

Finally the web site may be submitted to various Internet search engines and indices, as agreed with you.

One specific option we can offer, if appropriate for your site, is to place an advertisement for your site at the top of some of the major search engines, with a link to your site. This is done in such a way that you do NOT pay a large up-front fee for the advertisement. Instead, you pay a small fee for each visit made to your web site directly resulting from the advertisement.

The final step: Maintenance. It is unlikely that your web site will remain unchanged indefinitely; you will almost certainly want its contents to be amended from time to time. We will arrange with you to amend and re-publish the site as often as you wish; alternatively we will teach you how to do this yourself.
